PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy for hair loss is a three-step medical treatment in which a person’s blood is drawn, processed, and then injected into the scalp. This is a three-step process which requires three to four treatments 4–6 weeks apart.
Step 1
First of all your blood is drawn, majorly from your arm and is taken into a centrifuge (a machine that spins rapidly to separate fluids of different densities).
Step 2
After 10 to 15 minutes in the centrifuge, the blood will be separated into in three layers:
- Platelet-rich plasma
- Platelet-poor plasma
- Red blood cells
Step 3
Later, the platelet-rich plasma will be drawn up into a syringe and then injected into scalp area that needs the increased hair growth.
